New Security at Capitol but No Metal Detectors Yet
The State’s leadership OK’s at least part of a DPS security enhancement plan for the State Capitol. One thing that was part of a DPS plan that isn’t in a letter from the state’s leadership…the installation of metal detectors. That however might come at some point down the line but for the time being the letter does approve things like more bike patrols of the grounds, new training, bomb sniffing dogs, new security equipment and kits and a new employee notification system in case there is trouble. These steps were precipitated by a shooting incident earlier this year where a man opened fire on the Capitol south steps. No one was injured and he was quickly arrested by Capitol Police.
