Billboard Campaign Seeks Gay Acceptance
Four billboards are getting quite the reaction from a lot of North Texas Christians. The billboards along Interstate 30 between Grand Prairie and Fort Worth were purchased by a coalition of predominantly gay churches that are working to spread a message of acceptance. Fort Worth resident Chrsitine Lutz says fired off a stern e-mail to the Worldwide Metropolitan Community of Churches. One billboard reads, "Would Jesus discriminate," while another reads, "David loved Jonathan more than women." Reverend Colleen Darraugh with the Metropolitan Community Church of Greater Dallas tells CBS-11 in Dallas exclusively they've been the target of controversy since the billboards went up last week.
"There are people who have told us to re-read our bible, which is the very question we're asking others to do. We've had people say how dare you take the name of God in vain," Darraugh said. The billboards will be up through the end of the month. The billboards will be up through the end of the month.
