Funeral is Tuesday at Austin's First Baptist Church for former Attorney General Jim Mattox who died unexpectedly in his sleep Thursday. He was 65 years old. Mattox modernized the Attorney General’s office and was responsible for creating the child support enforcement program. He also spent time in congress and is also known for a bruising 1990 Democratic primary campaign for Governor against Ann Richards. He tried to regain the Attorney General’s office in 2000, winning the Democratic nomination but not the general election. Mattox is survived by his wife and two children. He'll be buried in the Texas State Cemetery.
