Just when you thought it couldn’t get any harder to fund road construction in Texas it does. TXDOT is told that the Federal Highway Trust Fund is running out of money quickly. TXDOT’s Chris Lippincott says the complete effect on highway construction projects in Texas isn’t known yet…but this isn’t good news anyway you look at it. “It means that’s there’s less money available to pay Texas back for the expenses that we have and the money is going to come much slower.”
He says in the short term that will probably mean slower payments to contractors building roads. He says Congress needs to come up with a long-term solution to get money flowing into the fund again. Right now gas taxes put money into the fund.
